Yesterday we had off of school because of the UCI Championship. This is a nine-day event (September 19-27), featuring 12 Championship races for Elite Men and Women. Athletes compete in three different disciplines including the traditional Road Race, the Individual Time Trial, and the recently introduced Team Time Trial. This is a world level event comparable to the Olympics and Tour de France. It’s amazing to see 1000 elite endurance athletes compete, it gives me inspiration and hope for my own endeavors. It is a unique experience seeing so many international teams ride around my town, school and city practicing their craft. The Swiss team even stopped one morning to get coffee by the Starbucks next to my high school. I love learning about different sports and the athletes who compete in them. It’s fascinating to find out what their training and nutrition is and the rationale behind it. From this experience, I’ve been researching different methods these athletes use in training and in the kitchen so I can integrate them into my own life if needed.
